Safe Water Access
Bringing Clean Water Closer to Communities
Safe and reliable water is essential for health, dignity and community wellbeing.
Blue Sands Foundation works with communities and local partners to develop sustainable borehole projects that improve access to clean, reliable water across The Gambia.
These projects help reduce the daily burden of collecting water while supporting improved hygiene, sanitation and protection from waterborne disease.

Your Donation
Where Your Support Goes
Donations to the Safe Water Access programme help Blue Sands Foundation plan and deliver community water initiatives responsibly.
Funds may be used for project assessment, infrastructure, materials, local implementation, community engagement, monitoring and maintenance support.
Where a specific project is fully funded, Blue Sands Foundation may direct additional donations to another safe-water project or an area of similar need. Make sure this is also explained during the donation checkout process.
The Challenge We Address
Communities without reliable access to safe water face increased health risks and significant daily challenges.
Families may need to travel longer distances to obtain water, while unreliable water sources can affect hygiene, sanitation, household responsibilities and community wellbeing.
Women and children are often particularly affected by the time and physical effort required to collect water.
Community Water Solutions Built to Last
Blue Sands Foundation works with communities and local stakeholders to support water infrastructure that responds to locally identified needs.
Our approach prioritises:
-
Suitable project locations
-
Community participation
-
Reliable water access
-
Responsible local management
-
Improved hygiene and sanitation
-
Long-term community benefit
We recognise that installing infrastructure is only one part of creating sustainable access. Community ownership and appropriate local management are essential to keeping water projects working effectively.
