A Community-Identified Need. A Practical Local Solution.
Women in Farato Bojang Kunda and Madina Daru Salam highlighted the difficulty of travelling elsewhere to access essential milling services.
In response, Blue Sands Foundation supported the construction of a dedicated community milling facility and the installation of two mills.
The facility was inaugurated on 6 September 2025 and named the Shakir Al Zaidi Community Mill in recognition of Dr Shakir Al-Zaidi’s support.

The Challenge We Address
Women in Farato Bojang Kunda and Madina Daru Salam previously needed to travel elsewhere to access milling services.
This created additional demands on their time, increased the physical burden associated with food processing and limited convenient access to an essential service.
The need for a dedicated local milling facility was raised directly by women in the community.
Practical Solutions Shaped by Local Needs
Blue Sands Foundation supports community-development initiatives that respond to priorities identified by local people.
The Shakir Al Zaidi Community Mill Project provides shared access to an essential food-processing service while reducing manual labour and supporting everyday community life.

The project originated from concerns raised by women who understood the challenge through their own daily experiences. Their request helped identify the need for a local service that would reduce travel and make food processing more accessible.
The community named the completed facility the Shakir Al Zaidi Community Mill in recognition of Dr Shakir Al-Zaidi’s support. The facility was formally inaugurated on 6 September 2025.

Where Your Support Goes
Donations to the Community Livelihoods programme help Blue Sands Foundation support practical, locally led initiatives that respond to community priorities.
Funds may be used for approved equipment, transportation, installation, training, community engagement, programme delivery and monitoring.
Where a particular project is fully funded, Blue Sands Foundation may direct additional donations to another community-development or livelihood initiative with a similar need. This should also be explained during the donation process.
