Bringing Maternity Care Closer to Home
Women in Jarra Toniataba previously had no maternity facility within their community. Accessing maternity services required considerable travel elsewhere, often along difficult road conditions.
In response to this need, Blue Sands Foundation supported the establishment of a new maternity facility in Jarra Toniataba.
The facility was inaugurated on 6 December 2025 and now serves Toniataba and its surrounding catchment communities.

The Challenge We Address
Before the new facility was established, women in Jarra Toniataba had to travel outside the area to access maternity services.
Distance and difficult road conditions created additional challenges for pregnant women and families seeking essential care.
The community needed a dedicated local facility capable of serving Toniataba and the surrounding catchment communities.
Establishing a New Maternity Facility
Blue Sands Foundation supported the establishment of a dedicated maternity facility in Jarra Toniataba, bringing essential services closer to women and families.
The project was primarily funded by Blue Sands Foundation UK and delivered in partnership with Toniataba Youth for Development.
Community leaders, health officials and other stakeholders also supported the development of the facility.
The completed facility was formally inaugurated on 6 December 2025.
