In 2025, Blue Sands Foundation supported the field evaluation of MOSQINOk® 0.8P, a novaluron-based larvicide tablet for mosquito larval control, in irrigated rice agroecosystems in The Gambia.
The study was conducted in two communities in the Central River Region. Janjangbureh served as the intervention community, while Sankuli Kunda served as the control community.
The evaluation included mosquito larval monitoring and adult mosquito surveillance using CDC light traps.
Blue Sands Foundation funded the fieldwork and supported project implementation and coordination.

Sankuli Kunda served as the control community, allowing researchers to compare changes observed in the intervention area against a community where the larvicide intervention was not implemented.

Larvicide Application
Field teams applied MOSQINOk® 0.8P to selected aquatic mosquito habitats within the intervention study area.

Study Results
A Measurable Reduction in Mosquito Larvae
The principal finding was a 54.1% reduction in total mosquito larval density in the intervention area beyond the change observed in the control area.
Reductions were also observed in adult Anopheles mosquitoes. However, these reductions did not reach conventional statistical significance.
The findings provide field-based evidence concerning the use of a novaluron-based larvicide tablet for mosquito larval control in irrigated rice agroecosystems.
